How to Grow Your Hair in 2025 – Part 2

Consistency, moisture, and low-manipulation styles are key to hair growth.

So, you’ve made it to week two and have been totally crushing your haircare wash day! If you’re here from Part 1 of How to Grow Your Hair in 2025, you might be feeling both confident and a little lost at the same time. Let’s dive in.

You may be wondering—Tyra, how did you know? Well, after wash day, you have to style your hair and figure out how you’re going to wear it. In the shower, your hair felt amazing—soft, hydrated, and full of life. But now? It’s dry, rough, and feeling like a Brillo pad. You’re confused about what to do next, what products to use, and how to style your hair.

The First Step: Reinfuse Moisture

Before adding any stylers, you need to restore moisture. The best way to do this? A leave-in conditioner. Yes, this step is non-negotiable. Can you believe some people completely skip leave-in conditioners? Some think it’s unnecessary, while others feel it doesn’t do anything for their hair. (Want to learn more about leave-in conditioners? Check out my dedicated blog post on this topic!)

Leave-in conditioners are different from your typical stylers like gel, cream, or mousse. My personal favorite is the Amika Hydro Rush Intensive Hydration Leave-In Conditioner. It keeps my hair moisturized for much longer than styling alone, preventing excessive dryness.

The Key to Healthy Hair: Low-Manipulation & Low-Maintenance Styles

Once you’ve locked in moisture with a leave-in conditioner, your next step is finding a low-manipulation (LM) and low-maintenance (LM) protective style. This is crucial because without one, maintaining natural hair can start to feel overwhelming. The right LM/LM style keeps your hair healthy and intact while making your routine easier.

  • Low-maintenance: Styles that don’t require daily restyling, saving time and effort.
  • Low-manipulation: Styles that minimize touching or pulling on your hair, reducing the risk of breakage and damage.

Still unsure what this looks like? Let me explain.

One of my favorite LM/LM styles is two-strand twists. Once installed, maintaining them is simple—just a spritz of water or a refreshing spray, and you’re good to go! No more morning frustration trying to figure out a style before work, and no more being late to school because your hair wasn’t done. Twists are gentle on your follicles and edges, preventing issues like traction alopecia.

More LM/LM Styles to Try:

  • Two-strand twists
  • Flat twists
  • Twaids (twists + braids)
  • Plaits
  • Cornrows
  • Mini twists

The key takeaway? Find an LM/LM style to wear weekly or biweekly. This will make your natural hair journey smoother and more enjoyable. As I mentioned in Part 1consistency and repetition are essential for growth and retention.
